HEN STANDS ALONE - IT'S HOT

by Kelle

Got home yeterday to find my hen standing alone with her comb flopped and the edges slightly purple. Heat is at 100°, I had a mister, a kiddie pool and a couple of waters available... her comb was also cool to the touch.

Any thoughts? I have moved her to sick bay this morning...

HOT HEN?
by: Sharon

Only going by the symptoms you mentioned and temperature, I could imagine she got over heated.

Do your chickens get in a wading pool?

When we have high heat day after day I like to give vitamins and electrolytes to my chickens. Since they may not drink a bowl of water with the electrolytes I like to bring them a bowl of soaked feed with electrolyte powder mixed in, first thing in the morning.

Hopefully your hen is improving with some TLC.

Misters can help, but when conditions are very hot and humid a fan would probably do more good than the wading pool or mister.
