What about the rooster?

Question
Our first chick just hatched.
Why is mother hen letting it roam around?
Will rooster hurt them?
They all stay in the same coop. 4 hens and 1 rooster

Answer:
Observe them closely. Most mother hens will keep the chick warm and care for it, but there are exceptions. At times, the other hens will attack the chick. Most of my experience is that the rooster could care less, as they are not intimidated, but there are always exceptions in the animal world. Watch closely and use your best judgment. If in doubt, separate the mother and chick from the rest of the flock.
