rainbow chick died
by: Anonymous

my 3 week old rainbow chick died last night some time after I left the coop. seemed to be ok when I fed and watered them with exception the chick seemed to tire very quickly and would take few steps and sit down. I put more pine shavings down for a bed, wondering if it choked on some shavings, any ideas?

3 Week Old Chick Doesn't Do Anything
by: Travis

I just brought home 4 chicks from a local sale. I would guess they are between 3 and 5 weeks old.
One of them hasn't done a single thing yet. It just lays there, doesn't eat, drink or walk around. It just sleeps. It's been about 24 hours so far and hasn't moved from the spot I laid it at. I have them in a big brooder with the heat lamp on them at about 70 to 75 degrees. I picked it up and shoved water down it's beak with a syringe today. It opened it's eyes and chirped very loudly. I think it swallowed the water, but then it just closed it's eyes and went back to bed. Ideas of what's wrong or what I should do?

Also, one other chick has curled toes, it walks around with all the other chicks, it just looks a little awkward. I read I should tape them straight with porous tape for a few days or weeks to correct them. DO you agree?

Chick suddenly can't stand for long
by: Heidi

My 3-week old chick was running around happily and suddenly can't stand for very long. It lays in front of the food and eats, gets up to drink, then plops down as if it's legs are giving out. It's breathing fast and also lays on it's side and stretches one leg all the way out behind it. Sometimes it jerks as if in pain, then opens its beak. Please help.
