medication for chickens

I have 3 hens (2 are production reds and 1 is black sex link) that seem to have a cold. My vet prescribed sulfadimethoxine 12.5%; my chickens are 6 1/2 months old and laying eggs. I was told to give 1 oz of medicine to 2 gals of water for 6 days and to discard the eggs while the hens are taking this medication. How long, after the meds are finished, before I can start gathering and keeping the eggs?

Each medication has a different withdrawal time. You can always check with the manufacturer. Medications specifically for livestock generally give this time on the package.
